My buddy Nate pointed me to this convincing explanation of the events on the tv series Lost.

Birthday Present Suggestion: Kickass Bike
Cinco de Matto is coming up, and it is a time of celebration for everyone. It can also be a time of anxiety, as many folks agonize over the question: “What can I buy Matt that will ensure his favor for another year?”
You may add to the list of possible items to buy me the best bike in the world.

I built a bed.
I got a bed from my buddy Sol. It was huge and too big for my bedframe. So I built one with my neighbor Matt Scott.
The central bit is built out of 2X4 douglass pine in a ladder frame sort of way.
The sides are sanded oak veneer plywood.
The legs are 4X4s, I forget what.
Behold my craftyness!

Surveil me better
I’ve joined the travel site dopplr. It’s pretty simple. Put in trips, connect through them. Useful for the frequent flying types that I’m supposed to become soon. You can see the little badge over there on the left telling you that I’ll be in Mount Snow this weekend.
Except that it tells you West Rutland, because neither Mount Snow or West Dover are understood as places by Dopplr. I picked a town near Killington, but that seems a bit lame to me.
Obama
Why?
Alex Barnett is someone who writes amazing ideas about technology, and he’s written why he would vote for Obama if he could. It’s not too long. One of the reasons that I’m starting to shed my cynicism about the process and get excited is that these smart nuanced positions that Obama takes don’t see to be entirely empty rhetoric. There’s some meat there. I don’t know if the guy can implement any of it, but trying is a damn sight better than not.
I always tell my friends to vote based on ideas. Vote for who you really want, because your little vote only matters to you and matters in an aggregate. That’s why when I had some crap choices I was one of the guys who voted for Nader.
But if you think about this election as a horse race, I’d urge you to take ten minutes to watch Larry Lessig’s presentation on “winnability.”
Congratulations Sraedi!
A big congrats to my ol’ buddy Sraedi for winning the Skull A Day dance video contest!
What I read in January
It was a busy month, with more adventure than reading.
- The Best American Nonrequired Reading 2007 by Dave Eggers
- The Family Trade by Charles Stross
- The Geek Gap by by Bill Pfleging
The only one that I’d really recommend is The Best American Nonrequired Reading 2007 by Dave Eggers. It is sweet, funny, sensitive and overall a wonderful thing. I got it as a present from my neighbors Matt & Megan and it was perfect for my trip to Utah.

New Look, problems fixed
Fixed the permalink problems, slapped on a simpler look.
Let me know if you spot any bugs I missed, let me know if you think the site look is lame.
Flickr is pro hell.
I read about flickr’s new places feature and started playing around with it. They must be satanists. Flickr makes hell look good. Then I thought I’d have a look around some other mythical locations.
Flickr knows that heaven isn’t in this world, but thinks paradise is closer to home!
Musical Tesla Coils, Instrument of the Future
Yes, in the future your “electric” guitars will be compared to banging rocks together.
